Maine Township District 207 Adult Learning

"District 207 aspires to be to teaching and learning what teaching hospitals are to medicine. Our teacher leaders are on the cutting edge of pedagogy and push each other to provide the best learning environment for all of our students."
                                                                                  -Dr. Ken Wallace, Superintendent

Maine Township District 207 is committed to creating a culture of learning among all members of our organization, this includes the adults as well as the students!  Adult learning research supports the fact that adults learn best when they can collaborate with one another, build on their own experiences and receive feedback from their peers. Our most recent initiatives in adult learning in our district strive to accomplish just this.  All District 207 teachers work with instructional coaches to develop a personalized instructional coaching plan. Through these plans, teachers enter a coaching relationship with a colleague. In addition, several staff members volunteer to participate in professional learning cohorts that are focused on specific areas of pedagogy. Finally, all non-tenure staff participate in our district's foundational courses in literacy, cooperative learning, and assessment literacy throughout their first four years in the district. We use the train the trainers model to ensure that these foundational courses and cohorts are facilitated by current staff members who have developed an expertise in the content as well as the facilitation of the course. As you can see, District 207’s approach to adult learning is founded in the concept of “teachers coaching teachers.”  We know that learning cannot occur in isolation and we believe our efforts to create a culture of learning in the district will have an exponential impact on student learning in Maine Township.
